Hello, here you can see what written work i have done for my projects. I mainly use my blog just to write down everything i’ve done or researched. Feel free to scroll down or go onto the next page. There should be a few funny videos posted around the place. Thanks and have fun at the show.
We all came together and decided we should make a small postcard for the show. This is mainly like a business card but a little bit bigger. We thought we needed to do this just to tell people a little bit about us and have our contact details on. I enjoy photography so i’ve added my favorite photo onto it. We decided we shouldn’t do a theme so we could make our own postcard’s and bring them together in class and maybe use a certain one for the poster.
We also came up with the idea of creating a poster so people know where to go and what they’re in for. So we all decided to create our own poster (few ideas) and pull them all together and choose which one we should use. We wanted to keep the poster simple but make it interesting. To help us get started we had a chance to look at the third year graphics design posters just to give us a few ideas. We thought we should have a theme so people could tell we communicated as a group well and we worked together. But it seems like we’re communicating well with each other but deciding that we should do our own theme. This will help us get our work done and give us more options on what to do.
We have 3ft by 2 ft boards which we spray painted black. We thought this was a good size because it’s not to small and not to big. We do have work to show but in my case it’s all mainly on computers.
Overall i think so far it’s going good. I now know what work im going to use for the final show and how im going to lay it out. As a group we wanted our show to be interesting and different so we’re coming up with a series of ideas on what we could do. Maybe have some music playing in the background and have refreshments. We thought of a disco ball which could work but we’re still thinking on what we could do.
As a group we had to come together and think of what we could for a group project. I thought it would be diffcult to come together and think of an idea that everyone will be satisfied with. We decided to create a video which you could interact with. We thought of having the person thats interacting with the video the camera man. You will come across a lot of options and you can choose what you do. e.g. your friend would say “do you want to go left or right” and you will have the option to choose. Whatever option you choose you will choose a different path and certain things could happen to you.
I thought this project was different and it helped us come together and put our ideas forward. We all had to contribute to help eachother and we did. We all had a specific job to do and we didn’t want to let anyone down.
This project will be show as group work and put on the touch screen. We will also have to blog which we used to get in touch with everyone and put our ideas forward. Just to show how we tackled difficult situations and worked it all out.
I made a flip book for another linear project in the 2nd year at York College. I made two of my sisters facial expressions changing over time. I enjoy photography a lot and i thought this project gave me the oppertunity to improve my skills in the area. I thought of something different so i decided to create a flip book. I thought it would take me awhile to take the photo’s but once i got my sister in the place i wanted her it was good. I took around 300 photographs and used them all. I thought it would of been difficult to tell what photo’s go first and when it finishes but it seemed to be okay. I wanted to make it look professional so i thought i would get the book binded which i did. I thought about laminating the entire book but then it wouldn’t work. I needed the photos to be flexible and able to actually flip correctly. I was abit worried what the final piece would look like but it turned out well.
So this is what im going to put up on my board including all the written work and other pictures i did. I made a little portfolio and talked about what i used and did to create this project.
I am going to add a few pieces into my show which i’ve done over the last two years.
First video i want to show is the “time” linear project. I enjoyed filming this because it was my first proper video i got to do and edit. It involves two different videos in it. One which is me getting up late and having to rush to work and missing out my journey to work. It shows me wasting time doing things that dont matter in life e.g. staying in bed and wasting an hour when i could be meeting people. Then after that i show me getting up early and not having to rush and then on the way to work i have the time to stop and meet people like a girl i like.
So that’s the first video im going to show. Second will be the Dragon’s Den interview about my indestrucatble paper. With this project we had to come up with an idea that hasn’t been done yet. I thought it was difficult at first because i couldn’t see how i could come up with an idea and then create it and show the class. So i thought i could film my idea so they could see it but it wasn’t infront of them. I made it so it was professional but funny at the same time. I made it so i was talking to the dragon’s and then it would cut to them talking to me etc. I thought it was a different way in showing something because normally people just stand up infront of class and talk. So i thought it was different me filming the interview. Doing this i could improve me skills in editing video and see what needs to be improved.
Through my various courses I have decided that Graphics Design is were my interest lies. This
interest has grown during the completion of several projects that has contained the use of
computer graphics. This is why I have decided to apply for this course, as it would give me
the opportunity to further develop my skills in this area. I believe completing a University
Degree course in Graphics Design would give me the perfect platform to build a career from. It
would give me the knowledge, confidence and experience necessary when pursuing a career in
this area. As I have already completed the first two years of a Creative Digital Communication
Degree, I already have the background knowledge that will prove useful when completing the
last year. I believe that whilst studying at Harrogate College I also gained sufficient
knowledge in key areas of information technology and communication skills that will be a vital
tool when studying Graphics Design.
I am a hard working and motivated individual that is willing to face any challenges that I
come across. My main interests are photography, social media and I am also a keen sportsman. I
believe photography is an important skill when studying Graphics Design, which is something I
found out when completing a six-week course in Digital Photography at Bar Lane Studio’s. I am
also hoping to enhance my knowledge in this area when completing a placement with a local
photographer. I have started compiling a portfolio of photographic images that I have been
building up over time. This includes a series of photos taken when touring Europe in my gap
year, which gave me an opportunity to capture a vast variety of images.
I am also interested in sports, playing football on a weekly basis. I believe this gives me
the skills to work as a team player and have regularly put myself forward as a team leader.
These are skills I believe translate well when working and gives me the confidence to come
forward with my ideas.
I’m still adding to my portfolio and thinking on how i can improve it.
Advantages:
The good thing about being an employee is the money. Everybody works for money even if they love what they’re doing. Employees get a set wage; if you’re in a successful business you’re more likely to get paid more. So if you get paid more – you could live a better lifestyle. Every year you will get a certain amount of days free, this counts as your holiday. Depending on what business you work in you could get more days off than others. But the good thing is your getting paid for not working.
Another advantage of being an employee is meeting people. You will be surrounded by other employees, which is a good thing because you could make friends through work and have someone to talk to. You can work as a team and become more confident in your working environment. If you’re lucky you could also find a partner. Another good point is safety, If you are in a good job and work hard you will be rewarded and you could be safe from being fired or made redundant.
Disadvantages:
Of course there are always negative points to everything. Firstly there is always a chance of being stuck in a dead end job. Not earning enough and not enjoying it will make your life hard. There are fewer jobs out there at the moment so everyone is trying to get any job they can get. So there is more chance of getting paid less and not having fun. It depends who you work with and for but there is a chance you could make no friends in your department or wherever you work. There is always a chance you could get fired or made redundant because there are fewer jobs now and more competition. Long hours, Its always a depressing matter but you have to do it.
So overall it’s equal there are both positive and negative points. But it depends on what your job is and whom you work for. You could have a well-paid job and be in a good working environment or, you could be in low paid job and in a bad working environment.
I’m an employee and I work for my mum. I get an average wage and I am working in a good environment. I’m happy where I am at the moment because I’m only 21 but later in life I would like to have a successful job and enjoy what I do.
For my first industry I am choosing the computer industry. Computers play a big part in this world and they’re very popular. I have mainly looked into Apple because I think it’s the biggest company in this industry.
Apple: They’ve made a series of different computers of a long period of time and none of them have been useless. They make a lot of money because of what they create. They have a series of good adverts on television and other good advertising plans such as posters, billboards and product placements on films.
There are several company’s in this area which are competing with each other, which is think is a good because they are trying to figure out better products and this is boosting the industry. This area is becoming more popular because of the products being made. So I think looking into this area will be interesting.

Second industry I will be looking into Mobile phones. A lot has changed in this area over the past few years. Phones becoming smaller, faster and more useful. Once again I looked into Apple inc. because they have made the Iphone, which has been a huge success in phones. It has been so successful other phones are copying the shape and idea of them. Phones have changed dramatically over the past few years. They can now connect to the Internet, take photos, film, games and connect with people. You can even have a GPS on your phone. I think this has boosted the industry massively and is still contributing. Also they have a series of advertisement out there and have a lot of Apple fans.
I found looking into Apple very interesting and I will do anything for a job in the company. I think this is a good company to look into because they have created and designed a series of successful products and are continuing to do this. They are very reliable and they have the knowledge to support and help you if needed.
